Legal Status and Designation

Upper Nile University is a public University established by the Higher Education Act of Sudan in 1991 and later reaffirmed under the Higher Education Act of South Sudan after independence. The University has a recognized corporate legal status.

Upper Nile University gained its designation as a “University” through formal accreditation, the offering of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and the development of institutional research capacity.

2. Physical Resources
Lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, administrative buildings, water plants, energy sources, health facilities, vehicles, and student hostels were largely destroyed and vandalized during the conflict. Some facilities were later regained and partially rehabilitated in the post-conflict period.
However, the University has maintained operational facilities at the Renk Campus and acquired additional facilities at its current accommodating campus in Juba.
