Bachelors in Veterinary Medicine

Program Description

The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) program is designed to train competent and ethically responsible veterinary professionals with strong scientific knowledge and practical skills in animal health, production, and welfare. The program aims to prepare graduates who are capable of diagnosing, treating, and preventing animal diseases, promoting public health, and contributing to sustainable livestock development.

Through an integrated curriculum combining basic sciences, veterinary medical sciences, and extensive clinical and field training, students develop the professional competencies required to serve the veterinary needs of South Sudan and the wider region.

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine is a five-year professional degree program structured progressively from foundational sciences to advanced clinical training. The program begins with basic courses in biology, chemistry, animal husbandry, and veterinary science, followed by in-depth studies in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, pathology, pharmacology, and epidemiology.

In the senior years, students focus on clinical veterinary medicine, surgery, reproduction, public health, meat inspection, and veterinary extension services. The fifth year is devoted primarily to clinical rotations, field veterinary practice, and a graduation project, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world professional settings.

The program emphasizes practical competence, problem-solving, research awareness, and professional ethics, ensuring graduates are well prepared for veterinary practice, public service, and further postgraduate studies.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, parasitology, and pharmacology.
