Professor Mamour Choul Turuk is a distinguished academician and thought leader in the fields of Education and Applied Linguistics, with an illustrious career spanning over three decades. He holds a PhD in Educational Studies and Applied Linguistics from the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK (2010); an MSc in the Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL) from the Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia (1999).
Professor Turuk obtained his first degree from the Faculty of Education, University of Juba, Sudan (1993), and later earned a second-degree Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) from the Faculty of Law, Al Neelain University, Sudan (1998).
He currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Upper Nile University, South Sudan, where he is leading transformative efforts in higher education and academic excellence.
Prior to his current role, Professor Turuk served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Bahr Al Ghazal University (2014–2019). He later assumed the position of Director General for Accreditation, Private and Foreign Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (2019–2024), where he played a pivotal role in shaping national quality assurance and regulatory frameworks.
Professor Turuk has dedicated his life to advancing knowledge and nurturing the next generation of scholars. His scholarly work focuses on critical thinking, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics.
He has widely published in the area of second language acquisition, particularly in L2 classroom interaction and the integration of critical thinking in language learning environments.
