A proud milestone for UNU medical students

Final-year medical students completed professional examinations at two major teaching hospitals in Juba.

A proud milestone for UNU medical students

Final-year students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences have completed their final professional examinations at Juba Teaching Hospital and Al-Sabah Children’s Hospital, marking a major transition from undergraduate training toward medical practice.

The examinations represent the culmination of years of study across basic sciences, clinical teaching and supervised hospital experience. Students have progressed from lecture rooms and laboratories to patient-facing environments where technical knowledge must be matched by judgement, communication and compassion.

Conducting the examinations in teaching hospitals gives candidates the opportunity to demonstrate clinical reasoning in real healthcare settings. It also reflects the partnership between universities and health institutions in preparing doctors who understand the realities of service delivery in South Sudan.

From training to service

For the students, the milestone brings together the discipline of long study hours, ward rotations, case presentations and practical assessments. For their teachers and clinical supervisors, it is an important moment to recognise growth while reinforcing the professional standards expected of future doctors.

UNU congratulates the finalists and wishes them success as their results are completed. The University looks forward to the contribution they can make through safe, ethical and patient-centred care in hospitals and communities across the country.

A shared achievement: The milestone also recognises the support of families, lecturers, clinical supervisors and hospital teams who accompanied the students through their training.
